If the Maxwell Street Community Garden had a diary, this would be one of those “big life events” entries. After all, it’s not every day you get a shiny new website.
Now, we did launch a new site last year. And it was great… until technology decided to throw a compost bin of complications and corruptions our way. But like any good gardeners, we took that as a sign to dig in, clear out the weeds, and plant something fresh.
This summer, with the help of one of our amazing Northwestern University interns, Winnie Nna (yes, the same Winnie who also helped build the site you’re looking at right now), we’ve rebuilt from the ground up. The new site is here to keep you in the loop on all the great things happening in our urban oasis — from events and programs to the buzz (literally) of our bees, the flutter of our butterflies, the splash of our murals, and the magic of our partnerships.
Need a garden plot? Want to volunteer? Curious about what our sunflowers look like at sunset? You’ll find ways to reach us right here. And for our gardeners, don’t worry — the password-protected members page is still your go-to for all those insider details.
Oh, and about that fresh new look — we teamed up with a former University Commons resident, Liz Ashline, to create a new logo that really captures who we are: a vibrant, urban community garden in the heart of Chicago. We think it’s cooler than a cucumber in July. Keep your eyes peeled… because swag with this logo is definitely sprouting soon.

So, have a wander around our new site, explore the nooks and crannies, and let us know what you think. We’re pretty sure you’ll dig it. 🌱
