UIC Day of Service: Cultivating Community Right Next Door
Located just blocks from Maxwell Street Community Garden, the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has become one of our most consistent and enthusiastic community partners.

Each year, UIC students, faculty, and staff roll up their sleeves for the university’s annual “Day of Service,” helping us prepare the garden for a fruitful season ahead.

In spring 2023, we were honored to welcome over 40 volunteers — including UIC Chancellor Marie Lynn Miranda, a proud gardener herself! Together, the team tackled early-season tasks like deadheading, weeding, and general cleanup to help awaken the garden after winter.

This partnership is a shining example of neighborly collaboration, where local institutions and green spaces work side by side to make our community healthier, more connected, and more vibrant.

We’re grateful to UIC for their continued commitment to service, sustainability, and growing something beautiful right here in the heart of the city.
