Partnering with Tomorrow’s Changemakers
Maxwell Street Community Garden is proud to partner with Northwestern University’s Center for Civic Engagement through the Engage Chicago summer internship program — a collaboration that brings dedicated students into our garden community to contribute their time, talent, and fresh perspectives.

Launched in 2024, this partnership began with two incredible interns who helped lay the groundwork for future cohorts. From revitalizing marketing materials and walking the neighborhood to build local connections, to bringing new energy to our online presence, their efforts helped shape what this program could become.
The program continues to grow — and in 2025, we are grateful for the work of our new interns with their contributions including helping us launch this very website!

Each year, our interns bring unique skills and passions to support Maxwell’s mission of sustainability, education, and community connection. In turn, we’re proud to provide a space where students can engage deeply with grassroots work, urban agriculture, and civic life in one of Chicago’s most iconic neighborhoods.

We’re grateful to Northwestern and the Center for Civic Engagement for planting the seeds of this thriving partnership — and we look forward to nurturing it in the seasons ahead.
